ABOUT LONGLEASH > BREEDING PROGRAM

At Longleash Family Breeders we are pioneers in a new type of breeding program that places the health and well-being of the breeding dogs as well as providing our customers with healthy family-raised pets.  Since it's creation over three years ago, many breeders have taken note of our program and have applied it's principles to their own business. This is something that we are quite proud of, especially since the breeding dogs stand to benefit the most in this scenario.

We firmly believe that the parent dogs deserve as much respect and love as their puppies will receive in their new homes, so at Longleash all of our "girls" have families of their own.  Our breeding program was created in October 2002, and opened in May 2003.

Unlike larger breeding organizations who only keep their breeding stock as long as they produce good litters, our girls are placed in "forever homes" from the very beginning.

We place specially selected Golden Retriever or Standard Poodle puppies into caring homes, at no cost to the owner.  We select and purchase the puppy, and provide $300/year to cover a portion of food and vet costs.  In return, the mother has three litters of puppies (at our facility), after which she retires from our breeding program to live with her family.  If you are interested in learning more about our Golden Retriever breeding program, please read on.

Our girls are placed in secure homes where they are raised from an early age as a member of the family.  The adoptive families are partners in our efforts to provide healthy puppies born to happy mothers.  We are in regular contact with the families and are there for support if any problems arise. Our dogs become their dogs and together we work to create the most beneficial environment for the girls as we can.

We provide these families with a carefully selected Golden Retriever puppy (from excellent bloodlines and reputable breeders) and $300/year for food and vet expenses.  This is a 5 year commitment at the end of which time the dog retires from the program and continues living with her adoptive family.

If this is something you may be interested in participating in  and you reside in Southwestern Ontario, please contact us for more information on how to become a part of the Longleash Breeding Program.
